What To Expect When Recovering From Breast Augmentation

Will you be getting breast augmentation in the near future? If so, you may be wondering what you can expect after the procedure in terms of the recovery process. While every doctor will have specific recommendations about what they want you to do, it helps to have an overview of the recovery before you get the procedure.

Expect Some Pain And Discomfort

There will be a lot of numbing medication injected into the surgical site for your procedure so you do not experience any discomfort, and it will take a while for it to wear off. You'll want to take acetaminophen to help relieve any pain and discomfort that you feel after the medication wears off.

Take Your Antibiotics As Prescribed

Your surgeon will likely prescribe you an antibiotic to help prevent you from getting an infection. It is crucial that you use the entire prescription of the antibiotic as prescribed and do not stop taking it once you are feeling better. The likelihood of getting an infection will be higher if you do not take the full course of antibiotics.

Expect The Implants To Not Look Normal At First

It will take some time for the implants to settle, with it taking several weeks for them to look normal. That's why it's important not to panic if your implants are not looking exactly how you expected them to look during those first weeks of recovery. Your surgeon will give you more information about when they expect the implants to look normal and when to be concerned.

Wear A Loose-Fitting Sports Bra or T-Shirt

You will not want to wear a tight-fitting bra immediately after your surgery. Your surgeon will likely recommend that you wear a loose-fitting sports bra or just a t-shirt during your initial recovery period. You'll have a check-in with your surgeon a couple of weeks after the procedure to see how you are recovering, and they'll then provide guidance on if you are ready to wear normal bras again.

Be Mindful Of Your Mental Health

There are some things that you can expect to experience during your recovery, such as bruising and swelling. However. It is also possible to experience depression or anxiety afterward as well. You just underwent a surgical procedure that altered the look of your body, and since it won't look exactly how you pictured right afterward, it is easy to have some side effects concerning your mental health in addition to your physical health.
